02 wrx timing belt install

AWDimprezaL , Jul 12, I'll do it for ya, when are you thinking? AWDimprezaL , Jul 15, Likes Received: 79 Trophy Points: I would suggest being prepared for removing the crank pulley and torquing it.

I did the timing belt last night on my wife's X aero and its an automatic and so I couldn't just put it in gear to remove the pulley like I am used to doing. I didn't think about that! I ended up cobbling together something using an old accessory belt which worked but I wasted an hour monkeying around. The job is cake though. Good luck! Take off the V belts. Take off the timing belt covers. Note that the one with the blue arrow is shorter than the rest. Middle Right: Note that everything was not perfectly aligned after I got the crankshaft timed.

Things were just slightly off. The crankshaft is what I timed when I removed the belt. Install the belt tensioner. Torque to 29 foot lbs. Recheck ALL your timing marks.

Anything amiss should be fixed. I'm not a Subaru tech, but with motorcycles, being off a tooth will cause it to run poorly and being off a few will definitely cause piston to valve contact.

This is catastrophic failure!
