An external usb canoscan lide self powered works either. Nothing to do.
I've tried then with full event viewer, nothing reported and process monitor, nothing found. Finally I found the file wiatrace. As further natural step was then sfc which warned me about an error with iisrstas. Note that - I have 8 instances of iisrstas. After further reading in MS forums, I found a reference to your site as "these guys know what they do". So, here you go. Linked the 18MB zip file. Inactive Malware Virus attack - advice appreciated. Thread starter uknortheast Start date Feb 6, Hi - any help or advice appreciated. Appears to have arrived when I was looking at some bids from Peopleperhour. All of a sudden my progs closed down and a Windows Internet Security logo appeared on the taskbar, with several pop-ups. I was unable to run any more progs, including McAfee, or Task Manager etc. There was a relatively genuine-looking virus scan pop-up which had identified a few things that needed removing - however it wanted me to pay obv in order to get my card details.
I disconnected the Internet, tried shutting down and restarting but this thing is v persistant! Delete them wouldn't as it said 'files were in use' 2.
